Readmine is a small, independent UK site run by Ridwan Adedapo. It publishes buying guides and practical articles for everyday life in the UK: staying warm for less, Christmas gifts on a budget, rain jackets for the commute and so on. This page explains how products end up in our guides, what we check, what we don't claim, and how we make money, so you can decide how much weight to give our recommendations.
Why this matters
Plenty of websites that recommend products earn money when you buy. That isn't a problem in itself, but you deserve to know how recommendations are made and where the limits are. We'd rather tell you plainly than have you guess.
Choosing guide topics
Guides start from questions UK households actually ask, especially in autumn and winter:
- How do I keep warm without running up a big bill?
- What's a sensible rain jacket for the school run or commute?
- What can I buy someone for Christmas for under £30 or £50 that they'll actually use?
- What does my pet need for winter?
We focus on practical, everyday purchases where a short, clear shortlist saves you time. We avoid topics where we'd have nothing useful to add.
Researching products
For each guide, Ridwan:
- Reads the product listing in full, not just the title, checking the specifications that matter for that type of product: wattage and safety cut-offs for heaters, waterproof claims and hood design for jackets, materials and sizing for clothing, ingredients and doses for wellness products.
- Reads buyer reviews, paying particular attention to the 1- to 3-star reviews to spot repeated problems such as poor sizing, leaks, early failures or misleading descriptions.
- Checks the price is believable. A well-known brand at a fraction of its usual price is more likely to be a listing error, counterfeit or bait listing than a real bargain, so it's left out.
- Compares alternatives at a similar price, and asks whether each pick earns its place.
What we don't claim
- We don't lab-test products. We don't have a test facility, and we don't claim to have personally used every item. Our guides are based on careful research of specifications, reviews and practical experience of everyday UK life. Where a guide is based on research rather than hands-on use, we say so.
- We don't give medical, legal or financial advice. Articles on topics like vitamin D or consumer rights summarise official guidance, such as from the NHS or gov.uk, and link to it. For your specific situation, ask a professional.
- We don't invent discounts. Readmine shows a guide price, the price seen when a guide was last updated. We don't show made-up "was" prices or countdown timers.
Keeping lists short
Most guides include around eight to ten picks, each with a reason it's there. We would rather leave a gap than pad a list with weak products. Our shop page only lists products that appear in a guide.
Prices and links
- Guide prices are approximate and in GBP. Prices change often, sometimes daily, so always check the live price, delivery cost and returns policy on the retailer's site before buying.
- Links go to specific Amazon UK product pages, and sometimes other retailers through affiliate networks such as Awin. We don't link to search-results pages.
- When you land on a retailer's site, the usual checks apply. Our article on checking a seller on Amazon and eBay explains what to look for.
How Readmine makes money
Readmine earns money through affiliate links. If you click a link and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Readmine earns from qualifying purchases.
Readmine may also show advertising.
Our rules:
- Commission rates don't decide what goes in a guide. We include products because we think they're good choices for the job.
- Brands can't pay for a place in a guide. We don't accept payment for inclusion.
- Free samples don't guarantee coverage. If we ever receive one, we'll say so on the page.
- Articles like this one carry few or no affiliate links. They're written to be useful whether or not you buy anything.
Updates and corrections
Each guide and article shows the date it was last updated. We revisit guides regularly, and especially before busy shopping periods. When a product is discontinued, its link breaks, its price moves out of the guide's budget or reviews reveal a problem, it's replaced or removed.
If you spot a mistake, such as a wrong price, a broken link or something that's out of date, please email Akanjiade280@gmail.com. Ridwan aims to reply within 2 working days and usually fixes simple errors within 1 to 3 working days. See our contact page for more.
Who's behind Readmine
Readmine is run by one person, Ridwan Adedapo, in the UK. There's no large team or newsroom, and no claim to professional retail or testing credentials. The aim is simple: to make the first part of a buying decision, working out what's worth considering, quicker and less noisy for UK shoppers. You can read more on our About page.
In short
- Topics come from real UK questions.
- Products are researched through specifications, reviews and price checks.
- We don't lab-test, invent discounts or accept paid placements.
- Affiliate commissions fund the site and never change your price.
- Mistakes get fixed when reported.
